Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram [2d echo, echo, ultrasound] is performed by one of our certified, licensed echo technicians and interpreted by one of our board-certified cardiologists.  The patient lies down while the technician images the heart with the ultrasound machine over the chest.  The echo is a thirty minute procedure that allows the doctor to evaluate the thickness and size of the heart muscle, look at all four [4] valves in the heart, and evaluate the strength of the heart.

The echocardiogram can be combined with an exercise stress test to provide additional information and indirectly look for blocked arteries in the heart.
